CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER – DON MCAVOY
Don McAvoy is the Chief Financial Officer for Crossman & Company. His primary office is located at the Villages, the largest single family residence community of its kind in the U.S. with 70,000 current residents. He is in charge of bringing under management over two million square feet of commercial real estate and in assisting and supporting the Crossman leasing and marketing team efforts at the Orlando office as well. With over twenty years of experience in real estate development and management, Don also provides support to the Crossman Orlando operations.
Don received his Bachelors of Science at Wake Forest University School of Accountancy, a school that has for the last fourteen years ranked tenth as #1 or #2 in the nation. Not long after he graduated, Don received the Charlotte Sales and Marketing Award (top sales and marketing award annually in the Charlotte metro area). He was the first CPA to win such an award for his development of the Charlotte practice of Touche Ross, now Deloitte-Touche. He went to work for one of the top four CPA firms internationally for eight years before opening his own successful CPA practice. Don eventually got into real estate full time after being hired as a Controller by one of the top private home building companies in Charlotte, North Carolina. He continued his real estate experiencing by moving to Ryland Homes as their division controller. While working in Public Accounting, Don served as lead manager on international assignments in Saudi Arabia and Germany. After a short stint in Texas to expand his oil and gas experience, he decided to pursue his Executive MBA at Queens University. Don graduated with focuses in Finance and Marketing, with a perfect 4.0 GPA, the first person to do so in that field.
Outside of his work experience, Don is actively involved with both his family and community. He is an active member of Keene’s Pointe tennis team and recently participated and sponsored the American Cancer tennis tournament. Don was awarded in the past the distinguished Harris Fellow designation by the Cabarrus County Rotary Club. Don was also elected to the board of several sports organizations; he was as well an assistant instructor and leader for the West Cabarrus Church AWANA club. Don is a nationally licensed youth coach, having coached youth soccer and baseball. His soccer teams won two state titles and received a ranking as high as 14th nationally. He counseled the teams to a trip to England and Scotland to participate in the international exchange program as well as the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Don has four lovely children, the oldest, Melissa, is a recent standout academic at Georgia Tech who completed her master’s degree at Oxford University this past December (that’s England, not FL!) and currently works as a Web Designer and Research Analyst for the University of Atlanta. Don also has two boys in college, Frue, who is in Greenville, S.C. pursuing a degree in Radiation Therapy, and Brad, who is starting as a freshman in Charlotte, N.C. Finally but certainly not least, Don’s youngest daughter will be entering High School as a junior this year with eyes on being a Veterinarian someday. Never one to rest, Don also assists in helping find pets homes for the Orange County animal shelter and Voice for Pets. He just took on his fourth dog, along with his brood of three cats and a flying squirrel.
